All I Want For Christmas is an excellent sermon about how your expectations are making your life miserable. In How To Succeed In The Face Of Failure And Discouragement we show how expectations can derail your real estate ambitions before you even get a chance to start. Another reason why mentors are absolutely necessary, they will keep your expectations in check and help keep you emotionally on track in your beginning years.

The following statements were made in the above video which are absolute gems:

  • In the presence of expectations, gratitude is minimised.
  • Expectations are desires that turn into demands.
  • What you expect can ruin what you receive.
  • I deserve nothing - I deserve death - everything else is gravy
  • A wise man knows that the reason for his anger is not the failure of others to meet his unrealistic expectations, rather he is angry because his expectations are unrealistic... it's not their fault, it's his. And when it's your fault - it's easy to not be mad.
  • The starting line to the happiness you've always dreamed of is the killing of your expectations

Hi,
Great article! I completely agree, expectations play a key role regarding how happy we are. I recently thought about this too. I invite you to have a look at Role and importance of “expectations” in being happy and tell me what you think!
Thanks, Nick

I may add that happiness tends to be fleeting. Something happens and you're happy for a while, then real life creeps back in. True, lasting happiness can only be found in submission to Christ. Once you take your eyes off of this world and put them on Christ, the worst crisis can happen to you and you're still happy... not happy that the thing happened to you, but happy in that you know that your short time here and all the trials you endure here are merely a blip compared to the eternity that you will spend with Him... conversely, if you are not submitted to Christ - the worst thing that can happen to you here is better than the anguish you will experience for eternity.
