We love these new smartkey locks! Right after we bought the house mentioned here and here we bought a smartkey deadbolt and smartkey locking doorknobs to replace what was there. This was a bank foreclosure so who knows how many people out there had keys to the house, we want to make sure no unwanted visitors have access to the house before we have a chance to find a tenant.

It is very cumbersome (and expensive) to buy new deadbolts and locks each time you want to change the keys (i.e. when a tenant moves out), not to mention the expense if you called out a locksmith each time!

Now, with these smartkey locks, all we need is a copy of the old key, a new key and in seconds the lock has been changed. They are a little more expensive than regular locks, but you only have to buy them once vs. each time you want to change for the regular locks. Its nice as a landlord to be our own locksmith, and if there are problems with a tenant or eviction - one trip to the property and the keys are changed. You can even key all your locks to the same key (not sure you would want the same key to work on all houses). Note: you don't need that re-keying kit, each lock comes with what it needs to do the rekeying.

We haven't had an issue yet where we lost keys or had a problem with a lock where it would not learn a new key, but if you ever run in to that problem you can always fix it with the cylinder reset cradle.

I would always go and get these locks fitted rather than regular ones. Hey thanks for the post.
